“Life is Simply Waiting… for Death”

A Tragedy by Richard D. Madrilejos

Setting: The whole scenes will be acted on same street where there is a small signage saying Heaven Street with an arrow going to the right of the stage and Hell Street with an arrow going to the left of the stage.

Scene 1

An elementary boy is waiting for his father to fetch him from school. He is excited because his father promised that they will go to the Mall. His father comes including his mother. He feels something wrong because his mother is here too and also, he can see the negative facial expression of her mother. Unfortunately, they will not go to the Mall as promised because his father has an urgent business meeting. His father then only gives him a necklace. His mother is there to take him home. His mother is mad because her appointment is somehow cancelled because of this incident.

Song 1

Scene 2

Boy is now in high school. Mother is now mature than scene 1. Mother is waiting for the boy who is shopping. Boy enters with grocery items. Mother scolded and pinches the boy in his ears because he’s too long shopping. She’s already late in her 5:00pm appointment with Mayor. His father is already dead because of an accident.

Song 2

Scene 3

Boy is now in college. Boy is waiting for his girlfriend. Boy is mad because she’s late. Girl tries to make the boy feel good but boy is still angry and silent. And the only way that will make him good is for the girl to agree to have sex with him. At first, the girl is undecided but because she doesn’t want their relationship to end and she loves the boy so much, she agrees.

Scene 4

Girl is waiting for the boy. The boy is drank. Girl starts telling her negative feelings about their relationship. The boy doesn’t care. They are yelling with each other until the girl shouts that she is pregnant. The boy stops. The girl asks the boy what to do. The boy is silent. The girl slaps the boy.

Scene 5

The appearance of the boy changed compare to the previous scenes. He is not neat now. A strange man is waiting for the boy to convince him to buy drugs. At first, he is not interested but when the strange man opens up that he is the person that his mother contacted for her girlfriend to do abortion, he agrees to take drugs. For him, taking drugs is a rebellious act to his mother.

Scene 6

The boy is waiting for the strange man because he wants to score for drugs. He’s money is short so he gives the necklace that his father had given him in scene 1 just to score.

Song 3

Scene 7

Boy is now a man. He still does drugs. He owns a business already. Even in his formal attire he seems dirty. He is waiting for one of her girl employees. He likes the girl. He is waiting for the girl because she wants to ask her to have dinner but the girl refuses. The girl is idealistic and physically strong. The man tries to kiss the girl but the girl slaps her fast. The man gets angry and forcefully gets the arms of the girl for him to kiss but the girl somehow kicks fast his balls. The man is hurt and warned the girl that she might get fired the next day. But the girl immediately offers her resignation.

Song 4

Scene 8

Boy is still in his prime age. Boy is waiting for the man pusher in the previous scenes who is old now. He wants to score and at the same time he wants the necklace that he had given to him. He will give whatever amount just to get the necklace. The man promised to return as soon as he gets the necklace and drugs.

Scene 9

The same time. As the pusher man leaves, the man is waiting for her mother who is not too old. The man scolded her as he was scolded in the earlier scene. The mother thought that they will go home together but she was frustrated.

Scene 10

The same time. As the mother leaves, a strange big man approaches him and asks a light for his cigarette. The man arrogantly replies no. Then, another man approaches him in the back with a knife pointed in his back. He can feel it. Then, the first strange man boxes him in the chest that makes him fall on the ground. It’s a hold-up. He explained that he has no money but he is waiting for someone who will give him money. The 2 bandits do not believe him. He was beaten. Suddenly, the man pusher came. He sees what is happening but he refuses to meddle for his survival. Then, one of the strange men stuck the knife in his chest. Immediately, they leave. He is dying. He is hallucinating. He sees the ghost of his father. His father’s dress is the same as in scene 1. His father asks him if where is the necklace. The man says I’m sorry to his father and so the father to his son. He is not always there for him. He wants to touch his father as tears falling down from his eyes. He is about to touch him when the ghost disappears and appears the pusher man. The man is about to fall but the pusher man catches him. The man asks him to go to his mother and tell her that I’m dying and I’m sorry. The man dies.
